Putting yourself out there can feel embarrassing. Being a beginner can be overwhelming.

When I first started my business, I felt insecure and wanted to constantly seem impressive. Instead of focusing on my customers’ needs, I sought out their validation in hopes that they would find my products impressive. But then a transition happened. I realized my business wasn’t about me; it’s about the people I serve. It’s not about telling everyone I’m an entrepreneur; it’s about providing value to my audience.

The point is this:

You aren’t alone while growing your business; you are on a collective journey with those you help.

Don’t isolate yourself by only focusing on yourself. Instead of trying to maintain the outside perception of how well your business is doing, focus on how effective your business is in its deliverables. Invite your audience on this journey with you and get to know what they need or want.

Try this exercise: Provide your customers or followers with a survey. Create a list of questions that ask for input on what they want or need more of, outside of the already promised value. This could be something like “What’s one thing you’re struggling with right now?” or “What would you love more support with from me?” Welcome all honest feedback and constructive criticism.

Begin to understand that your audience isn’t waiting around to throw tomatoes at the stage. Your audience is here for you, waiting to be both a witness and participant in your growth. Let them see the real struggle, and watch your business flourish.
